چکیده

A speciic class of multimedia applications is expected to be of importance for future communication networks: Multi-Party Interactive Multimedia (MIM). Based on the isolation and characterization of MIM applications, concrete network support requirements are derived in this paper. The varying degree of connectivity, the vastly diierent sizes in terms of participants and the reliance on a guaranteed Quality of Service make MIM support a diicult problem. Starting with the deenition of mul-timedia communication abstractions, principles of solutions are sketched. For an important subclass of applications a particularly eecient and practicable alternative implementation based on half-duplex channels is introduced. Finally, interfaces at both the transport and network layers are considered.

The Role of Multicasting in Managing Interactive Multimedia Distance Learning Systems

This paper discusses the important role of multicastin g in designing, implementing, and managing interactive multimedia distance learning systems. This is achieved in the context of IRI, an Interactive Remote Instruction system for distance learning built at Old Dominion University. IRI is an Internet-based system which integrates continuous multimedia, shared applications and a variety of mul...

Multimedia Integration Into a Distance Learning Environment

IRI is an Interactive Remote Instruction multimedia system for distance learning. It integrates audio, video, shared applications and multiuser collaborative utilities. In this paper we concentrate on the process architecture and dynamic multicast group handling as they pertain to multimedia and show how they support robustness and short response time to user actions. IRI uses raw IP multicasti...

A Review on QoS Multicast Routing Protocols for MANETs & Internet

Multicasting is a technique used for distributing data packets from one or more sources to a set of receivers on interconnected networks. Currently developing network applications bring specific quality of service (QoS) requirements like bounded delay, minimum bandwidth, and maximum data loss rate. Providing the required quality of service addresses routing and resource reservation concepts. In...

Review of Multicast QoS Routing Protocols for Mobile Ad Hoc Networks

A Mobile Ad hoc NETwork (MANET) is consisting of a collection of wireless mobile nodes, which form a temporary network without relying on any existing infrastructure or centralized administration. Since the bandwidth of MANETs is limited and shared between the participating nodes in the network, it is important to efficiently utilize the network bandwidth. Multicasting can minimize the link ban...

A Survey on Cloud Video Multicasting Over Mobile Networks

Since multimedia streaming has become very popular research topic in the recent years, this paper surveys the state of art techniques introduced for multimedia multicasting over mobile networks. In this paper, we give an overview of multimedia multicasting mechanisms in respect to cloud mobile communications, and we present some proposed solutions in perspective. We focus on the algorithms desi...
